Reader Comments: vijay writes on Sun Sep 19 02:13:10 2004: Not many books have such a fierce preface but not many books are written on such controversial subjects.
He literally fights for bajirao, he tries to give him the justice, after so many years of hate from his very own people.
But he certainly overlooks some important facts, mainly before 1814, which were actually responsible for his condition after 1814.
Even when peshwa fights his last battle, he is still just observing the battle from Parvati.
This was certainly not the characteristic of earlier peshwas. May be that's why he was 'Mantravegala'.
He might have been great at intrigues but in those days, when people were not understanding whether they should fight for maratha empire or chhatrapati or peshwa, he should have taken up the sword in his own hands rather than giving it to Bapu gokhale.
On the whole, the book definitely forces reader to think about the actual cause of the fall of maratha empire but it seems as if the main purpose of the book is to defend Bajirao.
May be, Inamdar should be given credit for defending him so vehemently.
