The book is the collection of essays on literary criticism by Bhalchandra Namade, a staunch nativist. Nemade, who headed the chair of comparative literature in Mumbai University, argues that it is not the Western influence but the virtual surrender to Western values that caused irrepairable damage to Marathi and the literary tradition of other Indian languages. This powerful book obviously proved controversial.
