पण मग अचानक माझ्यासमोर श्यामची उत्सुकतेने मी झोपलो आली. नचिकेत पटवर्धनांचे मुखपृष्ठ आवडले. पण कळच्या अनुभवाने श्यामचे नाव वाचून काहीशा नाखुशीनेच वाचायला घेतली. पहिला भाग कुटुंबव्यवस्था आणि चांदणे वाचला तेव्हा मला जाणवले, हे काहीतरी अद्भूत सुंदर वाचतो आहोत आपण. दुसरा भाग कुटुंबव्यवस्था आणि फुलपाखरू आवडला पण खूप ग्रेट नाही वाटला. पण तिसरा भाग कुटुंबव्यवस्था आणि पाऊस वाचून संपवला तेव्हा माझी मते उलटीपालटी होऊन गेली होती. श्याम मनोहर या लेखकाची कळ मला सापडली असे काहीतरी झाले. पुस्तक वाचताना जेव्हा डाव्या हाताच्या बोटातली पाने वाढत जात उजव्या हाताच्या बोटातली पाने संपत येताना खिन्न वाटायला लागते ते माझ्या दृष्टीने ग्रेट पुस्तक असते. कारण ते संपूच नये असे वाटते. उत्सुकतेने मी झोपलो वाचताना नेमका हाच अनुभव आला. कादंबरी मला जबरदस्त आवडली.
